BIG BUCK CONTEST WINNERS! This was Marlin Vasek's lucky year! MARLIN WON THE WIDEST SPREAD with 17 1/8" spread, AND 1/2 THE POINTS CATEG0RY with 12 points. GRANT MULHOLLAND WON 1/2 THE POINTS CATEGORY with 12 points. STEPHEN MITCHELL WON THE HEAVIEST CATEGORY with 130 pounds. Each Category paid $246.
MARLIN VASEK ALSO WON $50 IN THE SPECIAL DRAWING CONTEST. All REGISTERED HUNTERS WHO BROUGHT THEIR DEER IN TO BE WEIGHED AND MEASURED (even if the stats did not qualify in the three categories) WERE INCLUDED IN THE DRAWING.
Five registered deer were brought in. Marlin Vasek's deer was a 12 pointer, 17 1/8" spread, and 125 lbs. Stephen Mitchell's deer was an 11 pointer, 14 1/8" spread, and 130 lbs. Grant Mulholland's deer had 12 points, 14 5/8" spread and weighed 116 lbs. Robert Chamberlin and Brock Otto brought in the other two deer for the Special Drawing. Several other deer were brought in but were not registered in the contest, including Ryan (photo on the left).
Note: The Big Buck Contest applies to local deer hunted on low fence ranches in the Cistern area. The deer must be brought to the Cistern Country Store to be weighed and measured. This is a rifle season contest ending Jan 3, 2010. Bow hunters may enter the contest during the rifle season. The store opens at 11 AM weekdays and 1 PM on Sundays. Before store hours call Betty at 512-739-7840 or CJ at 979-743-5368 to weigh in your deer. Photos of all deer brought in will be posted on this webpage and on the Deer Board in the store.
